  1. Notepad replacement for PSPAD.

  3. This notepad is written by Dirk Paehl

  7. NOTEPAD.EXE  - part of PSpad
  8.  
  9. File Notepad.EXE runs PSPad only.
  10. Some programs work directly with Notepad.EXE. If you want to use PSPad with 
  11. these programs, you need to replace file
  12.   \Windows\Notepad.EXE with Notepad.EXE as part of PSpad.
  13.  
  14. Recommendations:
  15. 1. you need PSPad 3.5.9 (1293) or higher version
  16. 2. before first run of Notepad.exe it is necessary to run PSPad.EXE. During PSPad
  17.    first run a new key is created in the Registry:
  18.    \\HKEY_Current_User\Software\PSPad\ with path to PSpad.EXE

  20. Installation on Windows 2000, WindowsXP:
  21. because this systems has system files protection, you need to replace files in
  22. directories:
  23. %windir%\system32\dllcache
  24. %windir%\system32
  25.  
  26. Installation on Windows Vista:
  27. Find c:\windows\notepad.exe and c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe
  28. and set the owner to æAdministratorsÆ, and grant Administrators full control.
  29. Now you can replace it with PSPad version of the Notepad.exe
  30.  
  31. Note: The folder %windir% is different. On Windows 9x and XP it is C:\Windows, 
  32. on Windows NT and 2000 it is C:\Winnt. If you are asked to insert Windows 
  33. installation CD, choose CANCEL. In next dialog asking if you really don't want 
  34. to restore system files, react with YES option.

  36. How can i know which Notepad.EXE is original ?
  37. Notepad.EXE from PSpad distribution has same icon as PSpad (only different color).
  38. You can look too into file / properties on file information.
